<Definition> Asset-side liquidity refers to the property of a held asset that allows it to be converted into cash, when needed, within a reasonable amount of time and at reasonable cost. Holding an asset and being able to convert it into cash when needed are not the same thing: assets range from cash, which is immediately usable as funds, to assets that can only be converted into cash by being sold in a market or pledged as collateral, and the ease of that conversion differs from asset to asset.
